Westex. Rebrand, Design & Photography.

Role: Art Direction, Design, Styling and Copy Writing.

The brief: To develop the dated 70’s branding to reflect their luxurious carpets and create a contemporary, classic brand with appeal for both consumer and trade customers.

The brief asked for a subtle evolution of their brand look and feel to bring them into the 21st century. I created a route to answer this brief, however I felt that they could and should push the brand further. So in addition created a brand identity with a clean and confident simplicity.

I presented both approaches, and though they liked the evolution, they were blown away by revolution and have embraced a full roll out including adopting a new photographic style.

Westex dye their own yarns and can colour match to literally any colour imaginable, this fantastic USP created an issue with the previous brand execution, too many colours were used, with no rules of execution.

I wanted to make it really easy to maintain the clean simple style of the new brand, so stripped colour out making graphic elements of the brand monochromatic. The vibrancy of this colour dying USP will not be lost however, all colour is brought to the brand through photography.

Encouraging Westex to photograph some of the more vibrant ranges not only provided an uplift in sales for these types of product, but also created some extremely striking brand imagery.

To ensure the carpet was the focus in the photography we shot from a low angle. We kept sets and styling clean and minimal but with a confident use of colour to create impactful and dramatic imagery, designed to work as a strong backdrop to the clean brand mark.

In addition to the rebrand and new photography style we also developed related supporting collateral such as stationery, sample books, brochures and even an exhibition stand.
